Quick and Easy DIY Costumes

Need a fast outfit change for that Halloween event? We have you covered!

Over the years my kids have needed a costume (or two) for various events. And even though I consider myself pretty crafty, I am confident that ANYONE can pull these DIY Costumes together.

Normally, I would try to document every step by taking a photo, but who knew I'd be sharing my best handmade costumes out to the world years later...or at least out to all of you!

Here are 5 easy (NO SEW) DIY Costumes

1. Mummified!

This costume was so easy and cost me about $10. I bought supplies at Walmart and the Dollar Store and it was wrapped up in no time

Supplies:

1. gray thermal top & bottom set (walmart)

2. gray halloween decorating gauze ($1 store)

3. face make up (walmart)

After my son threw on the thermal set, I wrapped him up in the gauze (it doesn't have to be fancy, and if some is hanging off that's ok too!) Then we painted his face with gray and white and off we went!

2. Ghost

Last year my youngest was determined to be a ghost for halloween but didnt want anything on his face. So I made this cute poncho and paired it with a hat to get the ghost effect.

Supplies:

1. piece of large white felt - I measured my son from his shoulders to about his ankles and doubled it (any fabric store)

2. 2 pieces of black felt paper (any craft store)

3. white headband/hair wrap (beauty supply)

4. hot glue gun

5. scissors

6. piece of string or tiny hair elastic

Directions:

1. I took the large piece of white felt and folded it in half and cut a half circle so that when opened it makes one giant circle/oval.

2. In the center of the folded side I cut out a half circle to make a hole so his head could fit through. You should now have what looks like a poncho.

3. Take 1 piece of the black felt and fold in half. Now cute out 2 eyes in whatever shape you choose. I chose what looks like kidney beans.

4. Take the other piece of black felt and cut out a mouth. You can do a smile or a "booo"

5 Hot glue the face onto the front of your poncho

6. Lay out the headband/hair wrap and pinch one side closed and tie off with either a piece of string or a small hair elastic. You have your hat :)

After your little puts something warm on (bonus you can even wear PJs for easy bed time transition) put on the poncho and hat and they will be ready to haunt the town!

3. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas

If this Grinch showed up at my house, I'd happily hand over all my presents.

Supplies:

1. Santa pajama set TOP (purchased at Old Navy)

2. Green pajama bottoms (we had a PJ Masks set)

3. Toddler Santa Hat (any big box store)

4. thin green feather boa

5. green eye makeup and black eyeliner

6. hot glue gun

7. scissors

Directions:

1. Cut 2 pieces of the boa that will fit around the cuffs.

2. Cut 1 piece of boa that will fit around the bottom of the top.

3. Hot glue the boa to the cuffs and bottom

Once this cutie was dressed I took my green eyeshadow and brushed his cheeks. Then added a few lines with the eyeliner for whiskers and lashes and he was good to steal candy and hearts.

4. CrAzY Ace Ventura

Hi, I'm looking for Ray Finkle.

Supplies:

1. White short sleeve button up (I found this gem at Marshalls)

2. Lace up Boots

3. Athletic Pants

4. Plaid shorts (we took an old pair of plaid pj bottoms and cut them)

5. Black long sleeve (only added because it's cold here in New England)

6. pink tutu (I found this at Party City)

7. crew socks

8. hair gel

Directions:

1. Layer the clothing

2. add tutu

3. gel the hair in a crazy way

Something fun for your preteen who still wants to go out but doesn't necessarily want a "costume"

5. The Lorax

Easy and fun costume for those littles!

Supplies:

1. Tie Dyed t-shirt or long-sleeve

2. Orange paper plate (or construction paper)

3. Yellow construction paper

4. Pipe Cleaners x4

5. Leftover green boa pieces from previous costume (or pom poms)

6. Scissors

7. Hot glue

Directions:

1. Twist 2 pipe cleaners together and hot glue to t-shirt to create a "tree trunk"

2. Repeat

3. Hot glue boa or pom poms to the top of pipe cleaners to create "Truffula Trees"

4. cut out the "Lorax mustache" from the orange paper plate or paper and hot glue to the center of the opposite side of the t-shirt

5. Using the yellow paper, cut out a circle for a nose and 2 eyebrows. Hot glue nose on top of mustache and eyebrows just about that.

6. Pair with sweatpants and you're good to go!

We had Dr Seuss day at school and was really into The Lorax this year. Hope you get as many smiles as he did.

Whatever you decide to wear this year make sure to have fun and be safe!
