On Saturday morning we decided to venture to Upton for a short playground visit. It was pretty warm and we had a lot to do that day but I told my son we would, so off we went. I am so glad we did!!   We arrived around 11:30am and had no trouble finding parking as this playground is located at the Upton Community Center which is also, the Public Library   and Senior Center. Plenty of open spaces among the freshly paved and lined lot.

As you can imagine the walk from the car was very short and quite convenient. We were greeted by many many other families   (even though my pictures make it seem like there wasn't) but it never felt overcrowded.  The playground itself is completely fenced in and a good distance from the main road. I immediately noticed that the park, being brand new, was extremely clean and included a variety of things to do.  Equipment included climbing structures for all ages, slides 🛝 , swings (including baby, handicapped, and even a tire), teeter totters, spinners, and a jungle gym just to name a few.

The backside of the playground includes a small circular path that leads downwards to a grassy area. There are 2 additional slides that start from the top and also lead to this grassy area. This would be a great place for a snack   or for your very little one to run around   . While Grant and I were playing, a grandmother and her granddaughter came over to play with us. During our conversation, I learned that the playground was recently reconstructed. Trees 🌳  were planted to replace those that had been lost in construction and would eventually grow to shade more areas of the playground. They included benches for visitors to sit and access to the community center (during operation hours).

Under the swings you will find packed mulch, however, the flooring for the main playground area consists of a light coffee-colored, spongy, rubber carpet. Zero debris and forgiving enough if you fall. As I mentioned in previous articles, this is my favorite type of flooring because I do not end up with pieces of mulch, rocks, or sand in my car or home. The path on the backside of the playground is made of gray sand however the walls, inclusive of permanent large stones, are also made from the spongy rubber carpet.

We ended up spending almost 2 hours here.

PLAYGROUND FACTS & RATING:(out of 10)

Parking: 10: Large-sized, lined parking lot available. Located extremely close to the entrance.

Bathrooms: 8: The bathrooms are located within the Community Center building. They are large and very clean. The only downside is you can only access them when the building is open.

Safety: 9: All areas are fenced in. No broken equipment. There are also cameras that monitor 24/7. I gave it a 9 as there are still currently some construction 🚧 hazards.

Cleanliness: 9: The playground was very clean despite the lack of trash receptacles. Hoping that this remains the case.

Equipment: 10: Even with a packed playground, you have a wide variety of options. My child never had to wait to use a piece of equipment because there was always something else to do. From balancing and climbing to swinging and sliding there is something for every age.

Overall: 9.2: This is a great place to bring your children and spend the day. Use the morning to run and play and spend the afternoon getting lost in a book at the library.
