Your Child Can Be a West Hill Dam Junior Ranger This Summer!

Kids (ages 6-12) Can Learn About Local Wildlife and Habitats!

July 14, 2019

Local kids and tweens, ages 6-12, who would like to experience working in the out-of-doors with animals, plants and people should have their parents contact the staff at West Hill Dam to learn about becoming a Junior Ranger. They will be able to lead hikes, age trees, collect animal tracks, and learn to lead others in the outdoors.

Junior Ranger candidates meet daily from 1:00 to 3:00pm during the training week and must attend all five days of their session to graduate.  A parent, guardian or appointed adult (e.g. nanny, teen family member), needs to stay nearby on the grounds during the program (a new requirement).

Former graduates are eligible for Junior Ranger to complete their  Level 2 sessions (see the monthly calendar posted on park bulletin boards and its website for other Level 2 Projects). They will receive the Junior Ranger updates with instructions for completing the advanced sessions.  All candidates will experience the duties of a Park Ranger, explore various habitats, band birds, collect other wildlife samples, learn water safety skills, and practice environmental ethics.

Registration is open now for Session 2 from July 22nd to 26th, 2019.

Contact the Ranger Viola at  (978) 318-8417 with questions or to register.
