Area Events & Resources for Kids with Special Needs include:



✿ Southwick's Zoo in Mendon will beoffering a "Sensory Friendly" evening on June 2nd (rain date June 9th).

✿ Regal Cinema in Marlborough will offer a "My Way Matinee" Sensory-Friendly Film showing of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul" on May 20th.


✿ There will be an Autism Eats dinner in Medway on May 23rd.  The NE Revolution mascot "Slyde" will also be stopping by!  Visit here for more details.  Space is limited, you should probably order your tickets by Sunday, May 21st.


✿ The Children's Museum in Easton will host a "Family Autism Event" on the morning of May 27th

Preregistration is required and admission is free.


Enchanted Passage Bookstore in Sutton hosts a "Sensitive story time" at 9:30 AM on Wednesday mornings.


Sensory-Friendly movies will be offered at AMC Theatres (#AMCSensoryFriendly) on:

May 27th: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul" 

June 10th: "Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie"

- June 13th: "Wonder Woman"

- June 24th: "Cars 3"

- June 27th: "Transformers: The Last Knight"


✿ Chuck E. Cheese restaurants in New England (including Attleboro and Natick) are now offering "Sensory Sensitive Sundays" on the first Sunday of each month, including June 4th, 2017.   


✿ The Discovery Museums in Acton offer a variety of "Especially for Me" program(s).  The Discovery Museums will be offering:

-an evening for Families with Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and KODA Children on May 20th

-a Sensory-Friendly evening event on June 6th

-a Sensory-Friendly afternoon event on July 15th

Preregistration is required and admission is free.


✿ The Boston Children's Museum offers its "Morningstar Access program [which] offers children with special needs/medical needs the opportunity to visit the Museum at a time when there are only a few other visitors. At these times, [there is] a limit of 100 guests, and children and their families can explore the Museum with less concern about infections and large crowds." (source) Preregistration is required. Upcoming event(s) will be:  

-May 29th, and

-June 18th.


✿  The Happy Place is a support program of Compassion New England and Bethany Community Church that aims to "accept, encourage and support individuals with special needs and their families." It offers volunteer opportunities for teens and adults with special needs at The Blessing Barn in Milford as well as voucher-based short-term respite for kids (in Whitinsville) and adults (at the Blessing Barn). The group has also recently launched "Happy Place Camps" for kids.  Additional details may be found on their website here or by calling 508-482-0010.


✿ A terrific, local sensory-friendly venue in our area is the SenseAbility Gym in Hopedale, which is holds regular drop-in gym hours open to all children, as well as special programs. 

 
✿ If you have not already, you may wish to connect with the local SEPAC(s) [Special Education Parent Advisory Committees].  The SEPACs offer a range of parent and family events, many of which are open to the general public.
